This weekend’s festival served as a great introduction to Nashville’s music community. I’m going to keep track of the bands I see, sometimes with comments, sometimes not. I think it’ll be more of a record-keeping endeavor so I apologize for the lack of details. I had a lot more in this post and trashed it — I’m no music critic and I’m not going to try to be one. I just want to look back in a couple years and be able to say, “See! See! I saw them when they were playing ‘crowds’ of 8-9 people at Grimeys.”
Bands I like get bolded. If you see someone familiar you want to plug, feel free.

Meemaw – - I can’t describe the music. Punk pop? It almost doesn’t matter, because this is one of those bands where the performance and stage presence supersedes the music. Great band to watch. I’d go see them again. They also had a 7″ LP / CD combo for $4 with a photocopied poster inside. In other words, they know how to win me over.
Some hilarity at Exit/In: Infinity Cat Records, who co-sponsored the night’s events, brought a box of cheese sandwiches to hand out. Who doesn’t like cheese sandwiches? Of course, cheese sandwiches + concert = thrown sandwiches. Meemaw handled the barrage with class. I ate mine on the way home. Thanks, Infinity Cat!
Eef Barzelay – Imagine one of your favorite musicians playing a show in your living room. That’s what this felt like. The Basement is a series of small rooms with a stage and a bar squeezed in. Probably 40-50 people packed in there. It was hot, noisy, and awesome. I’m not one to approach artists but I couldn’t pass up the chance to say hi to Eef and tell him that I appreciate his music. Very nice guy.
It was a great weekend, capped off by a fun night at The Basement. I’ll leave you with the last lines of the last song Eef Barzelay played. His CDs make up a big chunk of my “Moving to Nashville” soundtrack.

Sounds like you had a blast. I’m jealous.
You just wait…I haven’t even met the starlet I’m going to guide to stardom yet.
That’s the “lose big” part, maybe. That or the economy failing and me taking up residence in a random study carrel on campus, scavenging the dining center after closing for crumbs and napkins with which to shield myself from the coming apocalypse.
Hi-
Thank you for the mention in this blog and thank you even more for supporting this past weekend festival. It was a chance to hear every and all kinds of music. Good luck to you!

Through The Sparks
Thanks Tom!
If I remember correctly, you fought through some equipment issues during that set, no? I thought you handled it well. Thanks for stopping by. The festival was great.
I can’t comment on the music, but what’s not to like about a (person?band?) called Cake Bake Betty?
I liked Cake Bake Betty a lot, too. A good name. I think she’s a solo artist (plays piano)…but there was a band for part of the performance. They had KISS-like face paint.
what was vulture whale like? That sounds like something the Flight of the Condors gents would put together.
I can’t remember a whole lot about Vulture Whale, other than that I liked them. It’s probably good that they weren’t like Flight of the Conchords because I think I’m the one person on the planet who got tired of them about 10 minutes into whatever it was they were doing.
