Trivia day: grab your (virtual) easel.

NEW ENTRIES…click “Read More” or this post’s title to see them.

Last week
Turned out splendid
Poems, debate, and laughs
This is what Fridays are about
Good work!

We are getting close, friends. Jam Master Jay, as you can see below, is one point away from victory in the first-ever Five Point MoodyTunes Trivia Challenge. I was so impressed with the entries last week that I gave everyone who contributed a poem one point (with the exception of Capt. Christmas, explanation to follow). In addition, I awarded a 0.5 point “There is a premium on humor” bonus to Sarah for overall quality and clever incorporation of Dirty Dancing, Spaceman Spiff, and interoffice mail into her poetry.

Regarding Capt. Christmas, I will dispense advice instead of points. Please consider Match.com for your Internet matchmaking needs. This is Trivia Day! It is serious business! No time for cozying up to contestants.

Standings –

Jam Master Jay: 4 points.
KiTe Girl and Sarah: 3 points.
Robin: 2 points.
Capt. Christmas: 2 points.
Ms. MoodyTunes: 1 point.
Everybody else: 0 points.

Question time. Once again, read all the way through before you answer. There is another important rule.

Question: Who are the original Pastafarians?

This week’s important rule: You must compose your answer in the drawing program of your choice. For example, MS Paint (Start | Programs | Accessories | Paint, for most Windows users). Because uploading images into comments is a chore, please e-mail your work to trivia@moodytunes.com.

When I say “compose,” I do not mean “draw letters.” I want drawings. Of objects. Don’t get smart with me, children.

Criteria: We all know that it’s hard to judge art. The review committee is looking for humor, originality, and lots of bright colors. Adding in dialogue or props would be good, too.

Bonus: Draw me. Do your worst!

I’ll add all submissions to this post for everyone’s enjoyment and comments, and you’ll have until next Thursday to contribute. I’ll review submissions Thursday evening and announce the results on Friday.

If you’re more of a studio artist and hate computers, draw something on paper and scan it. Or mail it to me. Or put it in my mailbox. Surprise me. This is not a technical competition — use what you’re comfortable with. True art will transcend your choice of medium. If your heart is pure, you will rise to the top of the Trivia Day leaderboard.

If you’re ambitious, you can try the free version of a program called ArtRage. Make sure you download the Starter Edition rather than the Full Edition, and when you save your work, make sure you use the File | Save as Image option. Art Rage is fun because you can make things look like real paint, crayon, chalk, or ink. For example, here is an oil painting of my fat cat, Gina:

Gina, in the nude

Why this important rule? Answers are easy to come by in the Internet Age. I like it when contestants are pushed to the limit. Taken to the max. I want them to reach down deep inside for that extra something. Give 110%. Let the game come to them (and then draw the game on a piece of notebook paper). I know this is a bright bunch and I’m confident you’ll all pass with flying colors.

Here, I’ll even kick off the bonus round with a self-portrait. Yes, I need a haircut. No, my hair does not have blue streaks. It just looks like that because my brown paint smeared my blue paint and made a mess. Such is the price of staying true to your art. Thank Xenu my name is composed of non-squiggly letters.

And we’re off!

I’ve been thinking about a new image up at the top of the site. I can’t think of a better place to feature the winner of this contest (either the main question, or my portrait).

Happy painting.

Pastafarians are followers of the great Flying Spaghetti Monster, and bringers of common sense to all idiotic school boards who try to replace their science texts with the first two (admittedly contradictory) chapters of Genesis. He protects all, watches over all, and really is just a good benevolent being. The Pastafarians are spreaders of his greatness, coolness, and tolerance. In addition, they show their support by dressing like pirates, talking like pirates, and sharing a community of pirateness to combat ignorance and the small balls of other gods. The religion was founded with an open letter to the Kansas School Board claiming the Earth was created by the FSM — and that the intelligent design/creationist people on their board had no more proof of their theory then the Pastafarians had of theirs, so they wanted equal time. You’ll note that the Pastafarians have won in Kansas — science is taught again — but the battle wages on in other school districts across the country.

Good grief these are getting closer and closer to revealing my true nature. I particularly like my hooves in that last one.

Shiver me timbers! An Avril sighting. That is going to throw the Judging Committee into a tizzy.
